Summary: | In order to keep and to protect the goods that are being transported through long distance,

containers are used as storage media. Therefore, number of containers are increasing every year.

Container cranes are used to move container from ship to dockside or vice versa. Container cranes

use electric motors as prime mover and holding brake to hold the moving parts of container crane.

In the design stage, calculation of motor power and braking torque should be done accurately in

order to find out whether crane is functioning properly or not.

In this final project, calculation of motor power and braking torque is done by using the

equation from Doosan[1], Verschoof[2], and MAN[3]. There are 4 driving systems on container

crane namely main hoist, trolley travel, gantry travel, and boom hoist. Calculation of motor power

and braking torque is done for each driving system. In order to facilitate the analysis, a program

has been developed for each driving system. The calculation result for each driving system is then

compared with information from Doosan and MAN as crane makers.

It was found from the comparison of the results that the computer program works properly.

Calculation of motor power using three references showed acceptable results. Brake torque

calculations carried out using the developed computer program showed reasonable results.

Differences in calculation result are caused by different assumption used by the three references

due to lack of system and operating information. Should there be a complete system and operating

information, calculation using developed computer program would give more accurate result. |
