THE INFLUENCE OF ADDITION EDTA, HUMIC ACID AND FULVIC ACID ON THE PHYTOREMEDIATION OF NICKEL, ARSENIC AND MERCURY CONTAMINATED SOIL BY THE SUN FLOWER (Helianthus annuus)

Metal has a limited solubity on water to be absorbed by the plant. One of the strategies to increase bioavailabilty of metal is by adding a chelating agent to the soil such as EDTA. Be side EDTA, uses humic acid and fulvic acid as natural chelator because has a change for metal complexity from its oxygen content that has functional group such as COOH, phenol and C=O. This research is aimed to know how big is the influence of addition chelating agent EDTA, humic acid and fulvic acid to uptaking metal contaminant nickel, arsenic, and mercury contained on the soil (Lembang and Sumedang) by the sun flower plants (Helianthus annuus).

The results shows there is increase of metal solubility and uptaking metal contaminant by plant. The highest metal extractable water increase was by addition of EDTA 0,1% (b/v) on the As contaminated Sumedang soil. That increase is about 87,20 times bigger than control (no chelating agent). The highest metal uptaking on root was on treatment by addition of EDTA on the Hg contaminated Sumedang soil. That increase is about 0,57 times bigger than control. The highest metal uptaking on shoots was on treatment by addition of EDTA on the Ni contaminated Sumedang soil. That increase is about 4,24 times bigger than control. Influence of chelating addition seems to have an increase on the contaminant uptaking on the plant shoots while in the roots it tends to be equally spread.

The smallest presentage metal that is not extracted water was observed on treatment by EDTA addition on the Ni contaminated Sumedang soil. This presentage is about 33,82%. This show that EDTA addition more effective than humic acid and fulvic acid where the water extractable metal still more than 80%. text
