Summary:Barium ferrite has been recognized as a good candidate material for recording media. Barium ferrite thin films were deposited on alumina substrate by alternate dip-coating method, and calcined at different temperature of 600-1000oC. The effects of calcination temperature on crystalline phase, morphology, and magnetic properties of the film were investigated. It was found that single phase barium ferrite was obtained as low as 700oC without any traceable detection of intermediate phases. Needle-like particles straggle on the substrate surface and continously grow upon calcination, the crystallites size increase linearly with increasing calcination temperatures. The saturation magnetization (Ms), <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> remanence (Mr), and coercivity (Hc) are 355 emu/cm3, 225 emu/cm3, and 4,8 kOe, respectively, for Tcal = 1000oC.
