Summary:One of the solutions for mud in Renokenongo area exploration, Sidoarjo, East Java, is to flow mud to river or sea. This solution needs an appropriate pump for mud flow. The appropriate one is Archimedes pump, because this pump is applicable for irrigation and throw away waste, as well as for flowing high viscosity fluid. <br /> <br /> <br /> The purpose of this research is to obtain the characteristic of the Archimedes pump experimentally and then to compare the result to numerical analysis. Numerical analysis uses Computation Fluid Dyamics Sofware Fluent. The experiment pump is conducted in river laboratory. This laboratory is located at Balai Sungai Surakarta. <br /> <br /> <br /> The experiment is done in two steps, the first step uses one pump and the second uses two pump installed series configuration. The distance between two pumps is 6 meters. The experiments are conducted to water and various ratio of mud and water. The ratio is 1 : 6, 2 : 6, 3 : 6, 4 : 6. <br /> <br /> <br /> The research gives results as follow, for water (mud 0 : 6) has the best hydraulic efficiency 42.97% at 376 Rpm and debit 10 lt/s, for mud 1 : 6 has the best hydraulic efficiency 41.11% at 337 Rpm and debit 9 lt/s. while for mud 2 : 6 has the best hydraulic efficiency 41.92% at 376 Rpm and debit 9 lt/s. for mud 3 : 6 has the best hydraulic efficiency 42.77% at 376 Rpm and debit 10 lt/s. for mud 4 : 6 has the best hydraulic efficiency 40.56% at 376 Rpm and debit 10 lt/s.
