The usage of energizer in pack carburizing becomes beneficial choice in order to increase process rate and save energy consumption. There are many kind of <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> energizer on the market. People also gain it from food waste, such as calcium carbonate in blood cockle shell. Further research for energizer needs to be done <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> because the importance of this material in pack carburizing. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The object of this research is calcium carbonate. Calcium carbonate is one of energizer type in pack carburizing. Calcium carbonate is derived from three kinds of natural shell: blood cockles; african giant snail, and eggshell. This three kinds of shell will be crushed into powder. Special designed steel tube is used as a container to heat powder in the furnace to 900 oC. Calcium carbonate will be <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> dissociate at those temperature becoming calcium oxide and carbon dioxide (gas). Carbon dioxide is flowed through small piping system into aqua dm. There will be an interaction between gas and aqua dm. The changing of this reaction will be monitored by digital pH meter to measure pH value. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> The result shown that three kinds of this energizer have different time to release gases and the way they changes pH value of aqua dm. Generally, blood cockle shell brought pH value down faster and deeper than african giant snail shell. But, eggshell brought pH value up to basic area and it decrease slightly at 900 oC.
