The electricity consumption in big buildings for operating air conditioning is 40 – 60% of its total energy usage. Electricity saving techniques can be applied to air conditioning chiller systems.. Energy saving in refrigeration sector can be done through a modification of secondary refrigerant, in air conditioning chiller system. <br /> <br /> <br /> The objective of this research is to reduce energy consumption through the performance (COP) improvement of chiller on air conditioning system. The improvement of performance is done through the addition of Palm Oil Methyl Esters toits secondary refrigerant, which can result in energy saving. <br /> <br /> <br /> In this research, selection of phase change material from the candidates we have observed previously have been carried out. From all of the candidates, Palm Oil Methyl <br /> <br /> <br /> Ester were selected as a secondary refrigerant used in this research report. Then Palm Oil Methy Ester were added into the air conditioning chiller system installation at <br /> <br /> <br /> Thermodynamics Lab ITB to be tested. The test result then compared with the result of the system without Palm Oil Methyl Ester addition. From the test, it was found that the best performance improvement was achieved by a combination 0,975 water + 0,025 Palm Oil Methyl Ester (% mass) as secondary refrigerant with 8,57% decrease in energy consumption and 289% increase in COP from 8 hours of test compared to chilled water. text |
