OILWATER STRATIFIED FLOW MODEL IN HORIZONTAL PIPELINE

Oil pressure and temperature drop may occur along the pipeline due to friction between the fluid and the pipe wall and heat transfer between oil and the environment. The temperature drop below pour point would cause oil clumping. Thus, the oil temperature must be maintained above its pour point so t...

The temperature drop below pour point would cause oil clumping. Thus, the oil temperature must be maintained above its pour point so that the oil would keep flowing to the destination. In order to maintained the temperature, water is added into the oil. Oil and water are two immiscible liquids. The mixture of oil and water that flows with low velocity would form stratified flow pattern with water on the lowest layer and oil on the top layer. Therefore in this final project the author using steady state stratified flow model. This model is a system of differential equations are solved with Implicit Runge-Kutta method. Pressure, oil velocity, water velocity, and oil volume fraction along the pipeline can be predicted by this model. text
