Summary: | The fact that 240 million people of Indonesia just served by 10 millions of computers are indicating computers domestic market in this country is still wide open. It has not yet mentioned data indicating that SMK in Indonesia needs at least 1.4 million computers per year. Ideally, one family had at least one computer. The other problem is, the computers which are sold in the market are still relatively expensive, the cheapest price of new computers currently ranging from 2.5 to 3 million rupiah. This price is still relatively expensive and difficult to reach by the lower middle economic people of Indonesia. From the problems mentioned above, the author tries to provide solutions for Indonesian computer world by developing low cost PC based on OpenSPARC T1 processor. The research focused on make T1 core modules smaller but still prioritizes processor speed and functional constraints. <br />

Modules that the author modifies consist of Integer Multiplier, Integer Register File, Instruction Data Cache, and Thread Design. Modifications done by reducing the unused registers, change the size and design and even redesign the module. As the results, new T1 processor cores obtained with the combination of new modules which has smaller size than the original design of a T1 but not declined the speed significantly. Tests are conducted to prove, the design has made the same functional characteristics with initial design. |
