Summary: | Storage time of meats depends on the storage temperature. High storage temperature causes meats rotting quickly. This is become a serious problem in the region with high ambient temperature such as middle east region. Ambient temperature that can be reaches 43oC in this region causes meats only 3-5 days before rotting. Because of that, freezer is needed in order to extend the storage time of meats in that region.

High differences between ambient temperature and cabin temperature make the energy consumption of freezer becomes higher. Therefore this research will discuss about design of energy-efficient freezer and operation optimization

of freezer in terms of air flow distribution in the cabin. In addition, this research also discuss about refrigerant selection in terms of efficiency, economical, and

environmental aspect.

The steps of this design consist of collecting data, cooling load calculations, equipment selection, equipment arrangement design, making alternative design for air distribution system, do numerical simulation for each

alternatives of air distribution system, air distribution system selection, and cooling process evaluation. The results of this research are freezer COP is 0.92 with the appropriate refrigerant is R-404A and the most optimum air distribution systems are third alternative design. |
