Description
Summary:Mistracking is a phenomenon of drifting of conveyor belt out of the track. Mistracking has occurred repeatedly several times each month on overland conveyor at PT. KPC and costing the company up to $15 million / year. Accordingly, this final project is made for the purpose of finding the root cause of mistracking and recommending some treatments to reduce the frequency of mistracking with previously identifying the main factors causing mistracking. Mistracking can be caused by a number of interrelated factors. From the linkages between the factors, fishbone diagram can be made to facilitate in identifying the cause of mistracking. In analyzing the causes of this mistracking, observations have been made to the conveyor condition in the field by reviewing the material loading to the belt, the condition of belt during operation, the conveyor structures, and environmental conditions. By reviewing the observations, the authors analyzed it with operation and maintenance manual, the applicable standard (in this case CEMA), and other reference sources. From the results of observation and analysis, the authors found the root cause of mistracking and made recommendations for preventive action to solve the problem of mistracking. From the results of observation and analysis, mistracking at OLC PT. KPC is more caused by environmental factors, including subsidence and shifting in the ground which resulted structural misalignment along OLC. In addition, there are factors that increase the risk of mistracking, such as failures on the idler bearing and also contributing the mistracking effect such as belt overloaded and belt over speed. By carrying out more frequent surveys, modifying and releveling the conveyor structure, installing the training idler, reducing the belt speed, and making a series of in-depth analysis of the velocity and other operating factors, it is expected that the problem of mistracking can be solved.
