Description
Summary:Vocational education in the field of mechanical engineering in Indonesia has included CNC machine as one of expertise subjects that must be taken to gain machining competence. The study on the use of teaching methods is needed to reveal the effectiveness of a learning method on CNC machine subject. This thesis will discuss the design of learning methods that use 3D simulator CNC lathe ET-242.

The design process of learning methods using CNC lathe 3D simulator is as follows: literature study on SKKD from vocational curriculum on machining, learning requirement analysis, and determining an appropriate learning method that use CNC lathe 3D simulator. Lastly, the designed learning method is implemented as the following sequence: pre-test, the 1st method and its evaluation, reflection on the result, the 2nd methods and its evaluation. Method 1 begins with the introduction and identification of control panel and then follow by the introduction and the use of G-code parameters and machining parameters on the simulator, whereas the 2nd method use the opposite sequence.

Initial evaluation results of the learning methods using CNC lathe 3D simulator show that the average percentage increase in student ability from pre-test to the time after implementation of first method is 20 %. Meanwhile, if the 2nd method is used instead, the average percentage increase in student ability is 40 %. It is also noted that the average student ability in the use of second method was 12,5 % higher than the first method. It is fair to conclude that the second learning method by using CNC lathe 3D simulator ET-242 is the appropriate method.
