Summary: | Barium ferrite (BAM), is believed to be an alternative material for recording media because it has advantages in its mechanical properties compared with other materials. In this final project, deposition of a thin layer of barium ferrite using a method of self-assembly monolayer (SAM), hydrothermal, and evaporation.
Raw material used are ferry nitrate (Fe(NO3)3.9H2O) and barium nitrate (Ba(NO3)2) and ethylene glycol as solvent for barium ferrite thin film deposition. Precursor solution used for deposition of Bam with SAM and hydrothermal. While evaporation deposition method, added dietanolamin (DEA) and citric acid silicon. Alumina and copper used as the substrate. At SAM deposition conducted for 120 hours, hydrothermal temperature for 3 hours to 60 oC - 80 oC. A thin film of barium ferrite calcined at temperature of 600 oC - 1100 oC, and then characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM)
All sample results have a structure deposition of polycrystalline barium ferrite that can be observed in samples calcined at a temperature of 600 oC with hydrothermal method and SAM and grow with the increase of calcination temperature. Crystal growth appears to follow the growth mode of the islands. The growth of thin films by evaporation method can only be formed barium ferrite on alumina substrate. |
