Description
Summary:In Indonesia peat soil covers a very large area, spread out in big islands as well as in small islands. In the past, engineer did not care about peat soil areas, as it is expensive to build on peat soil. As the population grow, and the development of economy and technology, peat soil area can not be avoided and new roads to support exploration of natural resources have to be built on peat soil areas. Padang Island is one of a small island, which layered by peat soil with enriched by gasoline and natural gas. Peat is organic soil with it's very low bearing capacity and high compressibility. In order to be able to use peat soil area to build roads etc, soil improvement or stabilization have to be carried out. One of the improvements on the peat soil is adding stabilization materials to peat. There are many stabilization materials have been used, and one, which is used, is the mixture of cement and additive Renolith. Cement is used very often to improve soil, while the use of additive renolith is one of a new alternative, was tested in this research to know how big is the effect on the mixture of cement with additive renolith to the strength and bearing capacity of peat and the strength of the mixture of peat with clay in peat to clay composition of 70:30. Result from stabilization show that the strength of peat was improved from the qu = 1.526 kg/cm2 to the qu =4.307 kg/cm2, and the bearing capacity from the CBR = 4.97 % to the CBR = 8.82 %.
