Gadolonium-doped yttrium oxide nanoparticles, shortened as Y2O3:Gd, were synthesized using a polymer heating method. Oxide materials from transitional metal can be produced using simple heating and an inhibitor polymer. On this undergraduate thesis, the synthesis of nanoparticles using yttrium nitra...

On this undergraduate thesis, the synthesis of nanoparticles using yttrium nitrate doped with gadolinium nitrate by adding polyethylene glycol will be reported. Furthermore, parameters variation which includes the adding of gadolinium dopant molar fraction, heating temperature, and heating time were carried out to investigate the effect of the three parameters on the morphology and crystallinity of nanoparticles. This method is very useful because it is rapid, economically efficient, and readily scalable for industrial applications. In addition, Y2O3:Gd nanoparticles is potential for use as ultraviolet sources since ultraviolet light is emitted when electron transition between energy states in gadolinium ions occurs. text |
