Summary: | Phytochemical study and antimicrobial activity test of extract of Xylocarpus granatum Koenig (Meliaceae) seed had been carried out. Results showed that 1% of the ethyl acetate and 1% of the methanol extract were active against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, but inactive against Candida albicans and Microsporum gypseum. From both ethyl acetate and methanol extract tannin compounds were obtained as the active constituents. Tannin obtained from the methanol extract was a condensed-tannin which released pelargonidin when heated with a mixture of n-butanol and hydrochloric acid. |
