Summary: | The research was done in Bujang Mountain area, Batang Asai District, Sarolangun Regency, Jambi Province within 9696600 – 9700400 mU and 166900–179400 mT (UTM WGS84, 48S Zone) of 12 km2 area. The area is listed as PT Aneka Tambang, Tbk mining authority. Geological mapping and alteration mapping in the scale of 1 : 12.500 was done to ascertain the geological setting and type of mineral deposition. Regional morphology is composed of Bujang mountain and hill morphology of Madu Hill and Sako Hill. Drainage pattern is commonly consisted of radial pattern. Study area is classified as Lava Dome Unit, Volcanic Hills Unit, and Lava Ridge Unit based upon structures, process, and stages that control the morphology. Paleo-volcano activity in Oligocene–Early Miocene Epoch had made Pyroxene Andesite Lava Unit flowed from the southwest to east, Andesite Lava Unit streamed down from Bujang Mountain toward the north. Lapili Tuff Unit was formed by fall mechanism which originated from the east, thus Dacite Lava Unit streamed down from Bujang Mountain. Middle Miocene deformation is marked by Batu Licin Right Lateral Strike-Slip Fault, Medang Right Lateral Strike-Slip Fault, and Hulu Tangkui Normal Fault which served as weak zones to Porphyre Diorite Intrusion. The research area has undergone hydrothermal alteration of weak–very strong intensity. Hydrothermal alteration zones of Quartz–Biotite–Chlorite–Magnetite Zone and Quartz–Epidote–Chlorite±Zeolite Zone are derived from the Porphyre Diorite Intrusion. Quartz–Sericite–Pyrophyllite Zone, Quartz–Pyrophyllite–Alunite± Diaspore Zone, and Kaolinite–Smectite–Ilite–Quartz Unit are derived from another heat source. Mineralization that characterized the area are chalcopyrite, galena, chalcocite, kovelit, tennantite/tetrahedrite, and iron oxide enrichment as hematite and goethite. In addition, vuggy quartz, hydrothermal breccia, quartz vein, and veinlet magnetite are also present. Hydrothermal alteration and mineralization of the study area indicates high sulphidation epithermal type of potential porphyry to bear gold and copper. |
