Summary: | Indonesia has many coal resources and the second largest coal producer in Asia after the Republic of China. This is a basic capital in the technology development of coal briquettes. The condition is contrary to the existing coal quality in Indonesia is generally low, while the resulting is low calorie, and the transportation cost is very high. Improving the quality of coal upgrading technology is being developed by ITB in collaboration with one of the private companies that engaged in coal mining. However, the briquette making machine that has been developed by ITB (roller press system) has some weakness. The weakness are manufacturing & assembly processes require high precision, backlash in the roll, the briquettes have low density and low-efficiency briquetting. From the above conditions, the thesis give an alternative of coal briquette machine that can minimize these deficiencies by applying the system of press piston (reciprocate). By applying the design method VDI 2222 produced a design concept will be developed. Further process ia Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) analysis on several important construction for optimum design results. A design of a coal briquetting machine with a piston-type system had been designed. The overall dimension of the briquetting machine is 915x1215x1250 mm3. An AC motor is used as prime mover with a gearbox producing three different kind of motion. This machine also provide a pressure regulating briquetting mechanism (adjuster) to simulate the optimum briquetting process. Based on the process that has been done, it can be concluded that all requirements have been met and the design of the machine with the application of DFMA analysis can predict the decrease in production costs is quite significant that performed at the design stage. |
