Description
Summary:Household electrical energy consumption tends to increase from year to year. Many factors affect the growth in consumption of Household electricity, (1) Improvement of technology, (2) Availability of Energy, (3) and the Electricity Basic Tariff, (4) Buying power /

Economic Growth, (5) Consumer habits in consuming electrical energy, and (6) Household needs. To know clearer about the habits of household electricity consumers, and what variables that influence it and the extent of influence from each variable, then a research

conducted on a number of household consumer. From the results of the study that processed by regression statistics, it is seen that there are three variables that can significantly affect the household's energy

consumption. Number of family member variable affect the level of household consumption significantly (Sig = 0,000). Other variables are connected electrical power (sig F = 0.000) and habit in using Audio / Video (sig F = 0.025). Furthermore, respondents are grouped according to their position on the X-Chart, in which respondents who are above the UCL (Upper Control Limint) has been named group 1, between UCL and LCL (Lower Control Limint) has been named group 3 and below the LCL has been named group 5. From the results of discriminant analysis, it is showed that Group 1 is the group which is most different from other groups (3 and 5) where the number of family member variable and energy saving lamp usage variable are distinguishing characteristic variables from one group to other. Apparently, the difference in habit was not caused by difference in the knowledge they had. The final section will try to find a solution for the problem above, with the objective

that they can change their habits in consuming electrical energy which in turn will establish the energy-saving behavior. One method that can be used to achieve these goals is through effective communication programs. The content of the messages to be conveyed is to encourage them to change their habit in consuming electrical energy. Form of reinforcement that can be used as selection is negative reinforcement. Negative reinforcement, is the result of an unpleasant or negative which also helped encourage the emergence of specific behaviors. From the survey result, more than 90% of respondent had known energy-saving programs from the television. This media is very popular in almost all layers of society. So the media can be used as the main choice of media to convey messages. Other media that can be used as an alternative is print media.
