For mass production, simple equipments are often used for reducing the production cost. <br /> <br /> <br /> In this research, simple equipment for helical compression spring production was designed, manufactured, and tested. Helical compression springs, in cylindrical and conical shapes, made from spring steel wire, mild steel wire, stainless steel wire, brass wire, and copper wire have been produced. The resulting springs were then characterized to measure their spring rates (k). <br /> <br /> <br /> The equipment for helical compression spring production has been successfully designed and manufactured according with the engineering drawing specifications. From the characterization results, the effect of spring-back will make the spring diameter to be larger than the shaft diameter depending on the type of spring wire materials. Conical helical springs have greater spring rates compare to cylindrical helical springs. Springs made from spring steel wire have the highest value of spring rate which are 0.169 kg/mm for cylindrical spring and 0.301 kg/mm for conical spring. Springs made from brass wire have the lowest spring rates value which are 0.050 kg/mm for cylindrical spring and 0.062 kg/mm for conical spring. text
