Summary:Sulfuric acid is used as electrolyte in battery. Addition of a specific material has certain effect to the solution. Polyvinylalcohol is a harmless synthetic polymer which is commonly used as glue. Polyvinylalcohol was used as an additive to improve battery’s performance. The effect of <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> addition of polyvinylalcohol was determined by solution’s density, viscosity, conductivity, and battery’s electric current and efficiency. The electric current and efficiency was determined by electrolysis of CuSO4 0,1 M solution. Sulfuric acid solution with 0 mg/mL, 10 mg/mL, 20 mg/mL, 30 mg/mL, 40 mg/mL, and 50 mg/mL of Povinal was observed in same condition. Measured density was decreased by addition of Povinal which resulted 1.2585 g/mL, 1.2565 g/mL, 1.2541 g/mL, 1.2525 g/mL, 1.2505 g/mL, and 1.2491 g/mL respectively while the measured viscosity was increased which resulted 1.7061 cP, 1.7099 cP, 1.7108 cP, 1.7131 cP, <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> 1.7146 cP, and 1.7191 cP respectively. The conductivity of solution was increased by addition of Povinalwhich resulted 0.043764 m2.S/mol, 0.044362 m2.S/mol, 0.044907 m2.S/mol, <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> 0.045045 m2.S/mol, 0.045185 m2.S/mol, and 0.045115 m2.S/mol respectively. The electric current was also increased by addition of Povinaland went further as long as electrolysis took. Solution with 40 mg/mL Povinal reached the highest efficiency, 93.2181% on anode and 91.4892% on cathode, in 5 minutes electrolysis.
