MMO anode usually called as dimensionally stable anode (DSA), because it has a very low consumption rate, which is about 1 mg / A.year. At present, there are many MMO anodes produced by various countries, except Indonesia. Every product produced by each country has its own characteristic and shape to achieve the ideal state of this anodes, that can be used as a material consideration for users of MMO anode. Therefore, it’s necessary to do some testing to determine the character and performance of MMO anode, so it can serve as a prototype to make MMO anode. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> In this final project, there are some testing application to determine the characteristics of substrates, coatings, and performance of commercial MMO tubular anodes ex. South Africa and China. The results of this final project is <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> expected to be a cornerstone of local manufacture of MMO anodes. To know the character of the MMO anode substrate, so it used metallography and EDS (Energy dispersive spectroscopy) characteristic methode. From the test results, it’s known that the substrates of MMO tubular anodes ex. South Africa and China are the pure Titanium grade 1 or 2. SEM-EDS, X-cut tape test, and bending tests carried out to characterize coatings MMO on both the anode. The results showed that MMO anode ex. South Africa used IrO2 Ta2O5 coating with a ratio 50:50, and it has the power peel adhesion and good durability as the MMO anode ex. China, that used Ta2O5, IrO2, RuO2, and Al coating with the <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> ratio of 26:50:18:6. Bending test, immersion test and accelerated test are used to determine the performance of MMO anode. The results showed both the anode has a decent resistance to bending test. From the results of immersion test, the MMO anode ex. China experienced weight loss about 0.45 g of anode coating and MMO ex. South Africa about 0.11 gr. While the results acelerated test, the anode MMO ex. South Africa experienced a failure on 58 hour, and ex. China on 39 hour, so MMO anode ex. South Africa has a longer service life than the ex.
