The problem of the VARTM method is how to make the matrix can wet the entire fiber. One way is by using a vacuum hose configuration which functions affect the flow pattern and speed up the flow. Matrix flow patterns that occur can lead to poor resin which is a defect in a product. This study investi...

One way is by using a vacuum hose configuration which functions affect the flow pattern and speed up the flow. Matrix flow patterns that occur can lead to poor resin which is a defect in a product. This study investigated the five design configurations that the author developed to produce flow patterns that can improve product quality. Configuration design that was developed includes inlet and outlet location, the arrangement of the secondary hose and a variety of distance and angle between the secondary hose. The results obtained from five designs show the configuration V configuration provides the best quality. From the ease of production, configuration I is more likely to be applied in the industry. In this study, quality of products is shown by calculating the fraction of fiber and thickness variations. Fiber fraction obtained by 51% while the variation which occurs progressively decreasing thickness from the inlet to the outlet. Decrease in the thickness of 9:13% in the outlet compared to the inlet. Research has successfully issued a rule to be used in secondary industry is the concept of hose in order to obtain good results. Besides, it has shown that the VARTM method can produce composite products with fiber fraction and the thickness is good. text
