Summary: | The emergence of government regulations and growing public awareness to conserve the environment has triggered a paradigm shift to designing environmentally friendly material. Natural fiber materials are candidates as
reinforcing material to produce lightweight, strong, environmentally friendly and economical composite materials, and one of them is bamboo. Bamboo plants grow relatively abundant in both Indonesia and the world. Bamboo fiber has good qualities in their applications in composite structures.
Laminated composite structures are highly vulnerable to foreign object impact compared with metal structures. The mechanism of damage in laminated composite can be investigated by quasi static indentation test. These tests apply axial compressive loading using a hemispherical indenter to achieve the desired damage. From this test can be determined quantitatively the influence of stacking
sequence and the thickness of a structure. Some damage response parameters that can be generated are d, F1, FMAX and F/d curve.

Typically, matrix cracking and delamination formed before F1 happened. The most critical damage can be a crack in the matrix or fiber failure or both, compared with delamination. Area damage is concentrated only in areas subjected by the indentor load only.
Specimens used in this thesis is made from woven bamboo fibers with fiber orientation [+45o/−45o] and fiber orientation [0o/90o]. The thickness varies with the configuration of 5 layer, 10 layers and 15 layers. With FMAX value for the configuration of 15 layers are 5200 N, this woven bamboo fiber laminate composite has potential to replace wood or synthetic fiber composite in simple
