Summary: | Since 2006, there is a case of failure in gasoline fuel pump in Indonesia. However, during the period from July to August 2010, failure in gasoline injection fuel pump occured more often, with the number of case more than 3000. On average, cases occured in vehicles that was operating in the north coast of Java. The cases not only happened on public transport, but also in private vehnicles from various brands and type of vehicles. Even, number of taxis in Jakarta were damaged at the same time, which results in big losses. <br />

Quality of the fuel, determine the life cycle of the fuel pump, it is necessary to do a research using several different fuel quality. Literature study showed there is a correlation between fueal and bearing pump material. To validate this allegation, the installations for testing injection pump are made and the perfomance of the injection pump using different fuel quality are tested. The pump,which is tested, is not a used pump. Gasoline fuel that are used in this test has poor quality, but antioxidant additives are added. The test result show that the performance of the fuel pumps are decreasing, depend on quality of gasoline fuel / how much additives that are added. <br />

From studying literature and testing the injection fuel pumps using different quality of fuel, it can be concluded that at the same operating pressure, the pump shaft rotation is decreasing with increasing of operating hour. Deposit is the cause of decreasing of the fuel pump shaft rotation. Addition of antioxidant additives can improve the quality of fuel thus slowing the rate of failure pump because it can inhibit the rate of deposit formation. |
