For maintenance technology, the mostly known and effective type of maintenance is Predictive Maintenance (PdM). This method based on monitoring of machine conditions. The conditions items to be measured are as follow:vibration signals, temperature, and friction-wear-lubrication (tribology). Meanwhile, for rotating machineries such as turbine, pump and compressor, the monitoring and analysis of vibration is the most effective technique because its
can give early warning information about machine elements defect.
In this frame work, this thesis develop a PC based data acquisition (DAQ) that can measure and acquire vibration signals. The DAQ set, utilizes NI PCI-6281 as DAQ hardware and LabVIEW 7.1 as graphical programming to develop
the application software. The developed multichannel DAQ (6 channels) can represent both time domain data and power spectrum data of the vibration signals for each channel sequentially. This data are useful to analyze and trace the
damage of machine elements. The other feature of DAQ set is alarm setting for Overall Vibration Level (OVL).

To know the performance of the DAQ set, a complete testing was performed. This process uses MSA HP 3566A as a reference DAQ set. Each channel was calibrated and some vibration measurements was conducted on rotating machine. The results show that the developed DAQ set showed good
performance in term of frequencies and associated amplitudes, since the error is below 10 percent. However, for low magnitude vibration signals (less than 10 milivolt), the represented data is contaminated by noise signal originated from the absence of signal conditioner, bad cabling or imperfection ground setting. |
