Summary: | Handmade batik industry is a traditional industry that exists for generations. Batik workers, mostly women, do their jobs in sitting position with chairs having various shape and size. The chairs used are normally not fit to the ergonomics aspects which lead to the worker's uncomfortable feeling and fatigue.
Uncomfortable feeling during working caused by the sitting position cause fatigue, even pain, in the worker's body. The part of the body that feel fatigue are shoulders, upper arms, lower and upper backs, forearms, wrists, thighs, knees, and feet. The pain is felt from the upper body trough feet. Because of those complains written above, a sitting tool with respect to ergonomics aspects and granted comfort during working is proposed. The dimension on every part of the chair has been adjusted to the worker's anthropometric dimension. The shape of the chair is designed according to the function of the chair as supporting tool to make batik. Shape and dimension proposed are listed bellow:
1. The height of the chair is at least the same as the workers' popliteal height.
2. The chair is equipped with backrest to support the shoulder and lumbar area while the workers do their job.
3. The chair has 4 cm thickness foam, covered with material that absorb sweat, to gain comfortability and stability while the workers are working.
4. Armrest is needed especially to static part of the body (left arm) to reduce load to the arm and lumbar area. The right arm, which is moving dynamically while working, need not to be supported, because it could disturb the arm's activity instead.
5. The legroom is needed, but used separatedly. It is designed portable that make the legroom adjustable to the user's leg length. The depth of the legroom proposed is as same as the user' feet length, in this case is 25 cm. |
