One of the most important component in railway is braking system. There are two kinds of brake blocks, metallic and composite brake block. Composite brake block has some benefits compare with metallic brake block, so it bring out a <br /> <br /> <br /> sustainable research for its perfection. This improvement of composite block brake is mainly intend to increase <br /> <br /> <br /> the value of thermal conductivity from the older composite block brake. This thermal conductivity value increasement used for easier heat transfer to every segment of block brake when the braking apllied, and conducting the heat to <br /> <br /> <br /> another part of braking sistem, so that the heat in block brake itself is not very high, then it can avoid stress concentration on block brake. <br /> <br /> <br /> From the test results, the exchange of coconut fiber into jute fiber do not give a significant result, it shows from bending test and press tests. Crush strength and cross breaking strength are still below 2.500-6.000 N/cm2 and 2.400-4.000 N/cm2, as a specification issued by PT. KAI. While the usage of copper powder as an exchange for iron powder can increase the brake block thermal conductivity. <br /> <br /> <br /> Thermal conductivity value is increasing from 0,63 to 0,787 according to the substitution from iron powder to copper powder. text
