Summary: | In the current era of globalization, the enforcement of effective strategic management becomes extremely important in telecommunication business. Project management can be described as the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to project activities in order to meet or exceed customers/clients needs and expectations from the project.

The customer requirement is a fundamental basic point of effective quality control. Customer satisfaction is of prime importance and should be a continuous process rather than a one-time endeavor. It is ever changing. What is considered of quality today may not be good enough to be considered of quality tomorrow.

In order to stay on top as a well performing business, every company needs to continuously evaluate its performance and target key areas which are hindering its progress. This thesis endeavors to identify ST(Samsung Telecommunication in Indonesia)’s current issues and make recommendations in order to avert the company from crisis and allow for future growth and progress.

The author uses a strategic project management approach to identify and resolve the current issues that ST(Samsung Telecommunication in Indonesia) faces. Issues identified include high employee turnover, slow financial cash flow, the large number of competitors, and maintaining a high network quality (in order to satisfy customers) at a low/competitive price.

Strategic Project Management (SPM) is about managing a business strategy in the most effective way so that it delivers organizational breakthroughs. SPM is also a way to extend the value of project management beyond financial performance and project/process outcomes (cost, scope, time, quality), to measures of customer satisfaction, and learning and growth. All of these components are unified in the objective of developing and reaching the company’s mission and vision.

This thesis sees the author select the qualitative research method as the approach and framework for data collection and analysis. This data is then applied to the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) model. The BSC can improve reporting and measurement of key project metrics, but (as demonstrated in the following thesis) significant research must be performed to determine the proper measurements to include in the scorecard.

Using SWOT analysis and the BSC, the research conducted integrates the internal processes with the external performance.

The author uses the research and applied Strategic management techniques to identify problem areas and recommend how they can be resolved. This research guides the company how to avoid crisis and get to the turning point to reach the Glory Period.

The author concludes that the results of this individual case of ST such as 1) cultural,2) Localization,3) budgeting, 4) Vision & Mission, 5) And so on can be applied to other new projectized companies which are likely to be experiencing similar issues through SPM&BSC.Therefore, this thesis also used a study into the application of SPM, with specific use of the BSC, in order to benefit a company and take it into future growth and success. |
