Description
Summary:This thesis presents slope failure causes, mechanism and a selected solution of an embankment on clay shale in one of most vital highways in Indonesia, the Cipularang Toll Road. The toll road was constructed in several years ago in order to support economic growth in Jakarta, Bandung and the surrounding area. The toll road had to pass hills and valleys on clay shale of the Miocene Djatiluhur Marl (MDM) formation. The slope failure was occurred in May 2007 at Km 96+600/B. This thesis covers analysis for subsurface condition, clay shale degrading strength due to exposure, back calculated strength parameters of degrading shale, slope movement monitoring result, and geotechnical analysis for obtaining alternative solutions. The geotechnical analyses were performed by utilizing PLAXIS, finite element software. The elastic-plastic constitutive model and the Mohr-Coulomb failure criteria were chosen to model soils. The analysis indicated that the most optimum solution to solve the slope failure is by adding a group of bored piles with diameter of 1.0 meter that are modeled by using elastic-plastic beam element. Using these bored piles, the minimum safety factor of the slope can be increased and its value become 1.30. <br />
