Summary:Most domestic waste has high organic substance loading. Thus, creates difficulties in its treatment effort, and yields in high pollution in water body. Such problem can be solved using waste water channel as bioreactor. Buffer medium is added in waste water channel as food for microorganisms. This will add channel function as bioreactor. Decrease of organic containment along waste water channel will be a great benefit for waste water treatment in IPAL (Waste Water Treatment Facilities) since IPAL will need less effort to treat the waste water. Experiment was done using 3 Plug Flow reactors using recirculation system. Each reactor has different physical attributes. Reactor 1 has charcoal as buffer medium for microorganisms. The medium has equal surface area for microorganisms to stick and grow. Reactor 2, has rough surface texture as medium of microorganisms. While Reactor 3 has smooth surface texture without any buffer medium for microorganisms. The research will use several variation using 2 variables, i.e. waste water concentration and channel slope.<p>Result from this research show that at slope 0,0005 variation, R1 has highest removal efficiency of COD at 78,79% at 200 mg/l influen concentration, R2 at 68,57% at 400 mg/l influen concentration and R3 has 63,89 of removal efficiency at 400 mg/l influen concentration. And at 0,005 slope variation, R1 has 70,27% of the highest removal efficiency at 200 mg/l influen concentration, R2 has 56% at 200 mg/l influen oconcentration and R3 has 55,56% removal efficiency at 200 mg/l influen concentration. Because Reactor 1 use charcoal as medium for microorganisms to grow, its organic decrease was the highest. Charcoal made microorganisms able to stick to the channel, and grow better. Recirculation system has made steady state condition is reached faster because there is addition of adapted microorganism into the reactor and also because of dilution factor.
