To anticipate this problem, the government makes policy about national energy containing of diversification effort in using energy, and impress about appropriation and utilization of biofuel as alternative energy. <br /> <br /> <br /> Biofuel is very important to develop for helping people in anticipating rarely refined fuel oil. One of potential biofuel resource to develop that is jatropha curcas oil. <br /> <br /> <br /> One of real contributions done by ITB in regional development, ITB has cooperated with Kabupaten Ciamis to realize program Kecamatan Mandiri Energi Alternatif Minyak Jarak Rakyat located in Kecamatan Rajadesa as sample location. Jatropha curcas has succeed to be planted by the people as part implementations of it program, the aim is to fulfill the need of energy for the people independently, it is not for industrial commodity or to substitute productive <br /> <br /> <br /> plant. The need of energy people can be fulfilled by using extracted oil from jatropha oilseeds. The oil extraction process taken from jatropha oilseeds can use screw press. Using of screw press needs the considerations of supply energy, therefore in order to design of screw press suitable for rural area scale. <br /> <br /> <br /> Technical specification of designed screw press fits for requirement, namely it has theoretical average capacity is 60 kg seeds/hours, with electrical motor power is 2 HP (1,5 kW) and rotational speed is around 1145 rpm, it will be reduced by belt and pulley transmission to become 120 rpm. <br /> <br /> <br /> Stress analysis for designed screw press use MSCNastran software. Result of stress analysis is critical stress about 280,6 MPa at screw press shaft, and 250 MPa at hole end pin. Maximum deformation is 0,432 mm, amount of deformation is still permitted because clearance between screw top and inner diameter barrel is 0,8 mm. Beside that S35C can be selected as material alternative of screw press <br /> <br /> <br /> shaft, with safety factor 1,8.
