IDENTIFICATION OF OPTIMUM CUTTING SPEED ON TURNING PROCESS FOR ACRYLIC USING SPECIFIC CUTTING FORCE ANALYSIS
Acrylic (Polymethyl methacrylate) is a form of thermoplastic polymer with a higher stiffness levels compared with other polymer materials, such as polycarbonate or vinils. Acrylic has a better strength against impact compared to glass, and a lower level of rigidity and temperature resistance. <b...

For industrial-scale acrylic machining, it is needed to know the forces that occur to determine the cutting tool selection and the optimum production rate. With the known relationship between the specific cutting force and cutting speed, it will be easier to select machining parameters accurately. <br />

In this research, a testing on turning process is conducted to find an optimum cutting speed for acrylic. Other machining parameters such as depth of cut and feeding rate are maintained at a constant value. The result is an optimum range of cutting speed with lowest specific cutting force for acrylic. |
