Description
Summary:Eggshell which is the waste of egg is very easy to find in a large number. Eggshell membrane is a macroporous network composed of interwoven and coalescing shell membrane fibers ranging in diameter from 0,5 to 1,5 μm. Because its macroporous structure and functional group, eggshell membrane has been researched as a template for the growth of inorganic material.

Hydroxyapatite membrane is synthesized with eggshell membrane as the template which can be used as scaffold. The method to synthesized hydroxyapatite is biomimetic using SBF as the hydroxyapatite source. The eggshell membrane was immersed in SBF solution for several days.

The immersion of eggshell membrane in NaOH 0,1N solution opens the membrane pores. Membrane immersed in SBF solution for 6 days begins to indicate hydroxyapatite presence with the fiber diameter 2,035 μm. Membrane immersed in SBF solution for 9 days also indicate hydroxyapatite presence and the fiber diameter is 2,591 μm. Membrane immersed in SBF solution for 12 days is showing more hydroxyapatite on its surface with the fiber diameter 1,408 μm.
