STUDY OF HIGH TEMPERATURE ENGINEERING TEST REACTOR WITH PLUTONIUM AND MINOR ACTINIDE AS A FUEL

Non-proliferation becomes a constraint in any nuclear reactor study. Nonproliferation strategy proposes that there is no need to separate plutonium with minor actinide in the spent fuel reprocessing process. In this study, we simulate a High Temperature Engineering Test Reactor (HTTR) with plutonium...

In this study, we simulate a High Temperature Engineering Test Reactor (HTTR) with plutonium and minor actinide as a fuel. HTTR is one type of high temperature reactor with helium as a coolant developed by Japan. HTTR has been designed with thermal output until 30 MW, and 950o outlet temperature. Beside produce electricity, HTTR also designed to produce hydrogen, a future energy source.
The calculation result show that the effective multiplication factor is higher than 1, which means this reactor can achieved its criticality condition. We also evaluated the composition of fuel along burn up. In this study, burn up period is 1650 days. This simulation is performed using SRAC program, with nuclear data library was derived from JENDL3.2. Reactor core calculation was done by using CITATION module in O - R - Z geometry.
text
