Description
Summary:There are four methods in manufacturing composites for natural fibers, hand lay-up, injection molding, extrusion, and compression molding. Hand lay-up method is the easiest way to do in manufacturing composites than others. There is

one method in manufacturing composites to give the better result than hand lay-up method, that is vacuum assisted rsin transfer molding (vartm) where voids volume in this method can be minimized so that the strength of composites will enhance. Therefore, in this final project the strength of the composite from the two methods above will be researched.

In this research, the author use a natural fibers as an alternative fibers that can be renewed than the sintetic fibers where the author use a ramie woven fibers.

Next, for matrices, the author use resin with its viscosity 13000 cps and it must use diluent to give lower viscosity required for vacuum assisted resin transfer

molding method. Therefore, the author make three type of experiments there are hand lay-up without diluent, hand lay-up with diluent, and vartm where in this process use diluent to give lower viscosity.

The value of modulus elasticity for those three type of experiments give us result 1,428 GPa (hand lay-up without diluent), 0,06024 GPa (hand lay-up with diluent), dan 0,03649 GPa (vartm). Then for yield strength give result 21,54 MPa (hand lay-up without diluent), 4,2 MPa (hand lay-up with diluent), dan 0,892 MPa (vartm). Next for ultimate strength give result 32,14 MPa (hand lay-up without diluent), 4,87MPa (hand lay-up with diluent), dan 9,38 MPa (vartm).
