Description
Summary:Indonesia, as the country which supports the world peace, requires a good defends, since in reality the intention to maintenance peace is not enough, thus the “power” to preserve it is also necessary. The “power” covers various aspects, with the most important aspect is military. For Republic of Indonesia’s own sake, it’s better for Indonesia to build its own military equipment; there for a Turbo jet engine is designed and developed as the main booster of a missile, while missile is one of the most important air

strike weapon.

A TJE500FH turbo jet engine, designed by Firman Hartono, has 3 main components, which are compressor, combustion chamber, and turbine. The focus of this research is to find the characteristic performance of the compressor. The previous research is conducted by Ahmad Jamaludin, but the result is still far from the design point; there for the research to find the characteristic performance of the improved design is needed and assessed in this research.

The research is conducted with numerical method in computer, which also known as Computational Fluid Dynamics Analysis. The research starts with 3D modeling of the compressor and then simulating it using CFD commercial software to get the data, next the characteristic performance is judged by the pressure rise result.

The result is showing that the compressor pressure ratio produced by the improved compressor design is still far from the design point. This condition happened because of the shock wave that occurs in the diffuser part, which happens because the air enters the diffuser in super-sonic state. Other than that, separation of fluid flow is also occurs in results to the small turning radius of the diffuser. Due to both of the problems mentioned above, in mass flow rate of 0,88 kg/s the compressor pressure ratio is only 0,954, while the design point is 4,06. Based on the research result, it is concluded that the TJE500FH compressor still needs some improvement, especially to avoid the shock wave and fluid flow separation in the diffuser.
