Summary: | Lately there are news in media, either in television, radio, newspaper, even in the internet about the mass failure on cars with injection system which involves component called fuel pump. The failure of this fuel pump needs to be researched, to find the cause. The test result on several gasoline samples by some organization reveal that there are gum and sulfur content which surpass the allowed regulation. Some fuels have discoloration and contain several metals such as Cu, Zn, Fe, and Pb. With the invention of the sulfur content exceeds the limit, it is necessary to study the relationship between sulfur content and fuel pump damage. This research objective is to study about sulfur content in fuel and its connection to fuel pump failure. This research was done after literature study from several sources. Denso fuel pump is used in this research. Fuel pump was damaged because corrosive property from mixture of sulfur content and water which is called sulfide corrosion. Sulfur content in fuel was found since it was in crude oil form. While the water comes from water vapor contained in the air. When the air is in the tank of the vehicle, condense can occur at low temperatures. This corrosive property cause corrosion in component called bearing. When bearing fails, fuel pump will fail. Fuel pump will stop supplying fuel to the injector and the vehicle will not start. Sulfur is the cause of fuel pump failure. |
