ANNUAL CYCLE OF SOUTH SULAWESI RAINFALL ANALYSIS
This research was conducted in order to explain the mechanisms that affect the rain cycle that occurs in the western and eastern part of South Sulawesi. FFT analysis is used to determine the rain cycle in South Sulawesi. SVD analysis is used to see how the monthly rainfall in South Sulawesi with mon...

This study used data from 1996 to 2010 year period. It is known the rainfall cycle western areas of South Sulawesi has a rain cycle with annual oscillation, while the eastern region of South Sulawesi has a rain cycle with combined oscillation between the annual and semmi-annual oscillation. In DJF period when the Australian Summer Monsoon active, convective activity occurs in Makassar Strait to the western part of South Sulawesi mainland delineation by topography factors of the Bawakaraeng mountain that separates western and eastern part of The South Sulawesi mainland, so that convective activity that occurs in west part does not fully reach to eastern part of South Sulawesi mainland. In MJJ period when the Asian Summer Monsoon active, convective activity occurs only in the eastern part of South Sulawesi. Based on the analysis results of the composite indexes suggests that convective activity that occurs in the Makassar Strait and the Tolo Bay has been linked to the development of convective clouds, which occur on the mainland of South Sulawesi, by Cold Pool mechanism. text |
