Description
Summary:Journal bearing is a machine element that used to support rotating transmission structure between rotating and static component. Journal bearing had utilized for high load and speed of rotating element. Journal bearing utilized incompressible property of oil fluid to support the load and for lubrication. Since that the friction due to relative movement between machine elements can be minimized.

In practice, friction problem between shaft and inner surface of journal bearing can not be minimized at all. Further study for this friction phenomenon, called by rubbing, caught the interest of Dynamic and Structure Integrity Laboratory, ITB Industrial Engineering Center, to do research related with the mechanism that caused the vibration due to the presence of rubbing. This final project is a research to study the characteristics of rubbing vibration response in journal bearing.

The results of this research show that the characteristics of rubbing vibration response in journal bearing are undirectional shaft orbit, large percentage of Total Harmonic Distortion, noisy waveform in time domain, and a lot of harmonic frequency are emerged. Besides that, natural frequency of this journal bearing will increase.
