The compression work in reciprocating compressors is done by a pistons that move back and forth. Because of this movement, the vibration ini reciprocating compressor is higher than that of other types of compressors. The vibration of this compressor can be reduced using a mounting structure. <br /> <br /> <br /> The use of this mounting structure is expected to increase the stiffness of the setup. The mounting structure in this experiment is made and modified with a rubber as a <br /> <br /> <br /> damper, and is stiffen with more frame. As a reference, the compressor is mounted directly and connected with bolts to the mounting structure. This modification is done to study the effect of the different mounting structure stiffness on the vibration level. <br /> <br /> <br /> In this experiment, vibration measurement is done using FRF and power spectrum tests. The FRF testing is conducted to determine the natural frequencies of the setup, whereas power spectrum testing is done to see the vibration signal power distribution in each frequency resulting from the vibration of the setup’s components. <br /> <br /> <br /> The results of the FRF test show that the setup’s natural frequencies decreases when the rubber is used, and increases when the mounting structure is stiffen compared to those of the reference. The power spectrum shows that the vibration level at the mounting structure in the first modification is reduced because the vibration propagation from the compressor is damped out by the rubber. While in the second modification, the vibration level at the mounting structure in the vertical direction is higher than that in the horizontal and axial directions, because the stiffening is done only in the horizontal and axial <br /> <br /> <br /> directions. text |
