This phenomenon makes concept of employee engagement important to study, because its empirical study prove, the concept affects decreasing employee turnover. To predict employee

engagement since the beginning of employment, personality concept can be used for its predictors, but results from previous studies showing the influence of these variables is weak, it is believed its effect is mediated by other variables, namely person-job fit (PJ fit). Thus, variables work characteristics must be added as predictors of employee engagement levels. The research using positivist approach with survey methods. Conceptual model was tested in case studies to population of car dealers employee in Jabodetabek and Bandung city region. Samples of the study are 87 respondents. Data processed using Microsoft Office and SPSS version 17 software, and the hypothesis was tested by path analysis techniques. Personality variables were measured using a model of the FiveFactor Model. Job characteristics tested using the Job Characteristic Model, and the level of employee engagement using the Utrecht Work Engagement Survey. Results of this study is the personality dimension of Conscientiousness (Beta value =

0.223) were statistically significantly affect the level of employee engagement. Work characteristic variables (Beta value = 0.445) and person-job fit (Beta value = 0.330)

contributed significantly to the level of employee engagement. Research variables that significantly influence the characteristics of PJ fit are Job characteristics (Beta value = 0.357), Neuroticism ((Beta value = - .258) and Openness to Experience (Beta value = 0.206). Implication of this study is personality was not a good predictor of the level of employee engagement. Thus the challenge for management is not looking for employees who have a tendency to engage or not, but how to create the conditions that

create high levels of employee engagement. It can be done by creating a working environment with excellent communication, transparent and foster mutual believe, with

job having clear targets measured by good and easy to understand performance management. text
