Description
Summary:IEEE 802.16j network is a next-generation wireless broadband network. As an amandment of IEEE 802e or mobile WiMAX, IEEE 802.16j introduces relay station concept to the network to help relay packets between base station and mobile station so the system can achieve higher throughput. As a new standard and no products are yet to be made to analyze the performaces of IEEE 802.16j, network simulator can be very valuable to support the network. One simulator that can support IEEE 802.16j simulations is National Chiao Tung University network simulator (NCTUns). The objective of the final project is to simulate and analyze the performances in IEEE 802.16j transparent mode network, which includes throughput, delay, packet losses and packet delivery ratio. Various simulations are constructed on several scenarios, with greedy UDP and TCP packet traffic. This research also analyzes the effect of relay station placement and numbers of mobile stations in the network to IEEE 802.16j network performances. From the simulations, the results reveals that using a transparent mode relay station can improves IEEE 802.16j performances, and the optimal relay station placement from the base station in the simulations is at 700 meters.
