Geographically, Kudus is included to cultural root of <br /> <br /> coastal Java which relies on trading sector as its economic support. Cultural contact takes place due to the access connecting with outer world. The cultural <br /> <br /> contact through trading gives way to the cultural blend. The relation originally only a trading relation has finally changed into a relation affecting each other's <br /> <br /> cultural condition, which compel to an acculturation process taking role in forging the culture of Kudus Java. This cultural acculturation not only limited to the values and knowledge, but also gives influence to the cultural artifacts. <br /> <br /> The method used in this research is descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The field observation approach through direct survey and interview is used to obtain related data. The interactive model of data analyzing technique is used to analyze existing data. This technique consists of several steps, few to mention as follow : data collecting, data reduction, data analyzing, and conclusion making. Those three steps mentioned, are in one interrelated union from the data <br /> <br /> analyzing, data process up to the finding of conclusion in accordance with the problem statement of the research. <br /> <br /> From the result of this research, shows that the ornamental pattern applied on Kudus traditional house is a blend of local culture with various influence of <br /> <br /> ornamental pattern from outer Indonesia. This due to the syncretistic character of Javanese culture. Kudus people – mostly Moslem still practice the tradition of old culture before the enter of Islam, including animism dynamism and HinduBuddha. <br /> <br /> Aside of it, the open character of coastal people tends to accept other cultures come from outside, such as Chinese and European cultures This put affect on the forms of the applied ornamental pattern. According to the forms applied, there are type of geometric, floral and fauna, and imaginary creatures ornamental pattern. The ornamental pattern can be found on the foot, body and head or roof components of the house with a symmetrical composition. Beside obtaining aesthetical function, this ornamental pattern also has symbolical meaning which function as visual media to put forward messages related with cultural values which have been the patron for the local people. text
