Description
Summary:In oil and gas industry, the determination of optimal horizontal well direction and length is an important process to get a well with good productivity. People usually use trial and error procedure using reservoir simulator as the method to determine optimal direction and length even its use still spend a lot of time. In this research, Fuzzy Logic and Fuzzy Clustering are used as the methods. The purpose of this research is to get the optimal direction and length simultaneously without using reservoir simulator. The object of the research is "X" gas field. Fuzzy Clustering is used at the first step to cluster data grid based on porosity, permeability, gas saturation, and location of each grid in the reservoir. The centres of the clusters will be the the lower and upper point candidates of the horizontal well. The optimal direction and length are determined using Fuzzy Logic method based on the plateu

time. Fuzzy Logic does not require any objective function. This is one of Fuzzy Logic strength that is very useful for this research. In this research, two cases are discussed, case with the lower point is known as point (42,34) and case with the lower point is not known. On Fuzzy Logic method, the deffinition of membership function for every variable has to be very sensitive. Radius and squash factor as the parameters on Fuzzy Clustering are simulated with some various values. These various values that are simulated do not significantly affect on the result. It is shown here that Fuzzy Clustering and Fuzzy Logic methods are effective in simultaneously determining optimal direction and length of horizontal well without using reservoir simulator.
