Description
Summary:H.264/AVC is newest video coding standard of joint video coding (JVT) consisting of the member ITU-T VCEG and ISO/IEC MPEG. This video coding is aimed to compress video that considered to have big size in order to transmit it on transmission channel or to store it in media storage that both has limited capacity. Unfortunately, compressed video became error prone video so that its quality can degrade significantly.

This final project will explain about effect of bit error toward the quality of video H.264/AVC. Simple program was made for inserting error on payload data unit NAL according to specified BER or on header unit NAL according to specified number of bit error. Video reconstruction quality assessment is done by comparing video reconstruction’s PSNR to video original’s PSNR.

The result shown that bit error can make error propagation in the sequence frame of video. If error occur in header unit NAL, it can make all of frame cannot be decoded. Random error gives more serious effect on video quality than burst error at the same BER.
