Summary:PT. Chevron Pacific Indonesia (PT. CPI) is an oil company which produces around 380.000 bbl of crude oil per day. Operational activities in PT. CPI are very <br /> <br /> <br /> supported by the availability of production equipments which can be operated at high reliability. Maintenance Support Services (MSS) is one of working unit in PT. Chevron Pacific Indonesia which has central role in repair and maintenance function of production equipments in Sumatera Operations. After reorganization in year 2004, the scope of MSS tends to be narrowwed and become a shop-based works. Detail work completion also more rely on contractors because many of experts in MSS are moved to other units. This reducing supervising ability of MSS to its contractors and affected the performance and work result of contractors. Customers who currently repairing and maintaining their equipments in MSS, now tend to develop their own contracts which assumed more suitable to customer's need. As an effort to improve the performance and the reputation of MSS as one of working unit which handle repair and maintenance of production equipment, then an evaluation was performed to looking for the factors that affecting MSS performance and find the right solutions. Two very important factors are organizational capability and contractor qualification. Root causes are found by using causal effect diagram that derived from workshop to evaluate and analyze the condition in MSS which involving representative employees and leaders in MSS. A survey for business partner's employees also conducted to get the perception of those employees on working environment in MSS and found the problem from business partner employees point of view. Some efforts to improve MSS had been identified, which include 15 operations strategi proposal which are : organization structure change, contractor qualification, bundle repair & maintenance contract, integrated contract, training and certification of personnel, developing learning environment in MSS and its business partners, <br /> <br /> <br /> developing better customer relations, equipment database, JDE aplication, lean sigma application, manpower and shop optimization, focusing repair and maintenance in MSS, provide inspection and quality control tools, develop MSS information center, and <br /> <br /> <br /> add field job scope and integrated contract. This final project is proposed to discuss the operations strategi and implementation plan to improve the performace and quality of MSS.
