Summary: | Welding repair is a method to improve the material that has been common practice in the industry. However, various problems may occur in practice in the field. Flame spray

coating is one coating process of material on the surface of another material using thermal energy source. However, in the industrial world it can also be used for the repair
process to the material defect. Improvements made in the form of a metal surface restoration of material disability, such as porosity.

The process in flame spray coating is very improtant. Therefore, the effect of parameter process variation on the result of the coating quality will be observed in this
research. Powder flame spray method is used in this research. Low carbon steel is used as a base metal and Eutalloy 10009, a nickel chromium metal alloy powder, is used as powder. This powder is used to improve corrosion and wear resistance. The parameters process used in this research are shape of notch, preheating, and the distance of powder spraying.

Three shapes of notch is formed in a base metal, there are key, U, and V notch. The distance of powder spraying is distinguished, 1 cm and 2 cm. Meanwhile, preheating

parameter has been given to four specimens, at 200 oC and 300 oC. Two others specimens were not preheated.

The outcome of flame spray is observed by interface microstructure with optical microscope. On V notch at specimen 1 (PA2-1), has the best adhesion. Nevertheless,

after the observation with Energy Dispersion Spectroscopy (EDS) showed the diffusion from filler metal did not occur. There is no elements distribution of powder on base metal.

Thus, the bonding mechanism that occurs in this research is mecahanical bonding. |
