Summary:Organization need to capture and deploys its knowledge to improve its competitive advantage. A knowledge map provides an illustration of the existing knowledge in the organization now. Knowledge map is complemented by social network analysis to identify the flow of knowledge among the members inside the organization. This study offers a connection between knowledge map and social network analysis to analyze knowledge creation process in an educational organization. This study started in September 2010 and finished in December 2010 at the People and Knowledge Management Interest Group SBM. The purpose of this study is to analyze knowledge creation process that exist in PKM SBM by capturing, representing, and understanding group knowledge into knowledge map and linking it with social network analysis among the members at the group. This study was conducted using a qualitative method. The information was gathered from in depth interviews, literature review, and some syllabus. The participants were four lectures in PKM SBM. To explore more information in social network analysis, the researcher also interviewed three full time tutors at PKM SBM. After codifying and categorizing interviews transcript, the researcher built knowledge map that illustrated existing knowledge in PKM SBM and drawn social network analysis among the members inside the group. Generally, there are four basic knowledge fields in PKM SBM: applied anthropology knowledge, applied sociology knowledge, applied psychology knowledge, and people management knowledge. Based on the interviews, the group members have solid social network, although there are some missing link between some group members. By linking knowledge map and social network analysis, the researcher found out that knowledge creation process has happened inside the group which covers socialization stage, externalization stage, combination stage, and internalization stage. However, there are some areas that need to be improved such as producing papers or books collaboratively between lectures.
