IDENTIFICATION OF TRANSPORTATION COST STRUCTURE (Study Case: Transportation of Concrete steel in contractor companies)

Early problems at this research – indentifying transportation cost structure that resulting potency of cost reduction effort of transportation activity cause of highly expenses of transportation cost at construction activity in 2 (two) project which have different transportation characteristics by 1 (one) contractor company at Jakarta, - port civil structure project and high rise building structure project at Jakarta, with research focus on steel concrete transportation activity, this research purpose to answer those problems. Analysis process to find those answers by doing an exploratory study method. This analysis process; comparing transportation cost structure on 2 (two) construction project, comparing transportation cost structure in construction industry with manufacture industry, and indentify potency of cost reduction effort at construction industry. Those processes result a potency finding which is answer the problem of research.<p>Comparing transportation cost structure on 2 (two) construction project, find a differences in project transportation cost structure. These differences, find on equipment cost of transportation cost component, causes by differences in use an equipment rent system on each project, that is; integrated rent system and separated rent system. The identifying of those two systems has indentified variation of project transportation cost structure.<p>Comparing transportation cost structure in construction industry with manufacture industry, find; [1] component of manufacture transportation cost structure which is no component of construction transportation cost structure, that is loading/unloading cost and demurrage cost. This differences cause manufacture industry base on product industry but construction industry base on services industry, then [2] component of transportation cost that should be counted by construction industry, that is international freight cost. It causes manufacture industry has reach international transportation region but construction industry only on regional transportation region. The identifying of transportation cost component make transportation cost structure seems more detail and result potency to reduce transportation cost in construction have big opportunity.<p>Potency effort to reduce transportation cost at construction can not be conducted to all factors which can decrease transportation cost. But, it can conduct on one of factor which has big influence in decreasing transportation cost. Increasing productivity factor on worker and equipment is two factors which can be conducted to reducing transportation cost at construction. <br />
