Description
Summary:Several countries have developed ice slurry technology as substitution for conventional block ice refrigeration to freeze fishery products. It have been proved that the ice slurry technology have a higher effectiveness in maintaining the quality of the product, than conventional refrigeration.

The purpose of this research is to design a refrigeration machine which produces ice slurry, that can be installed on 30 GT Indonesian fishing boats. Both thermodynamics theoretical and empirical equations were used in the design of the refrigeration machine main components. From the design process, it was found that for 30 GT fishing boat,

refrigeration machine with 5 ton refrigeration capacity is needed. The cascade system is used, with refrigerant R-134a for the first stage and R-507a for the second stage. This system consists of seven main components, those are shell and tubes second stage condenser with one shell pass and one tube pass, second stage evaporator as the slurry generator room, shell and tubes first stage evaporator with

one shell pass and two tube passes, two compressors both of which has 4 kW capacity, an two capillary tubes. The dimensions of those main components are the main results of this final project research.
